North York is a remarkable part of our City. With its global character and remarkable restaurants, retail, and food markets, and one-of-a-kind local businesses, North York has much to offer residents of the City of Toronto. What is needed now is a cohesive and comprehensive branding strategy to bring awareness to all North York has to offer. This motion requests report from the General Manager of the Economic Development and Culture Division's Office on the feasibility of developing and executing a branding strategy for North York and include input from the relevant City departments and agencies, including those that manage and organize special events for the City. This work would be an important step in fostering community spirit in the area and showcasing all of the incredible places, products, and services North York has to offer.

This report requests that North York Community Council deny the request for a permit to remove one privately owned tree located at 7 Marwill Street. The applicant indicates the reason for requesting removal of the tree is due to concerns about branches failing due to poor attachment to the trunk. The Norway spruce tree (Picea abies) in question measures 47 centimetres in diameter. The City's Tree By-laws do not support the removal of this tree as it is healthy and maintainable. The permit was denied and the applicant is appealing the decision. Community Council has delegated authority from City Council to make a final decision as to whether a permit may be issued when an applicant wishes to appeal the denial of a permit of a tree protected under the By-laws.

The Zoning By-law Amendment is for the whole site but proposes specific permissions for the Therme tourism, entertainment and waterpark facilities on the mainland and West Island, as well as the mainland parking structure serving multiple tenants and uses, including LiveNation, science programming at the Cinesphere and Pods and visitors to the public realm across the Island. These applications were initially submitted on November 25, 2…
